Denton and Helen met at Goldsmiths as students, and remained close friends for the rest of his life. Helen transcribed Denton’s journals shortly after his death, and she included several letters from Denton in her introduction to I Left My Grandfather’s House. She was an accomplished artist and author, and she actively campaigned on behalf of the Artists Refugee Committee during the second world war.
